Another year come and gone and it is time again to wish Christmas greetings! 2015 is just around the corner!
I don’t know about you; but 2014 saw many changes: big and small, easy and difficult, welcomed and some not. One of the biggest, putting our house on the market in May and the going out of business/liquidation process that began in June.
I mentioned when the process of going out of business started that I would say my goodbyes at the end when all was done. I expected to be able to do that by December 31st. Well, true to form, the Lord had other plans. It is December 23 and we are still trying to liquidate more inventory. So, goodbyes were not meant for 2014.
What was planned for 2014 was get ready…… be ready…… get ready…… be ready…… for the lessons of getting ready and being ready. Two verses and a parable keep coming to mind during this phase, especially these past few months:
2 Timothy 4:2 ” Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long suffering and teaching.”
1 Peter 3:15 ” But sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence”
The parable of the 10 virgins who waited for the bridegroom, Matthew 25: 13 “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”
Be ready…… in season and out of season.
Be ready…… to give a reason for the hope that is in you.
Be ready…… because you do not know the day or the hour.
So, as our house sits waiting to sell, we must stay vigilant to keep it ready to be seen; as we liquidate our business, we remain vigilant that God will provide; and as we prepare for our move, not knowing when that day will come, we continue to be ready and get ready.
How does this all relate to this time of year? After 400 years of silence, over 2000 years ago, God became flesh and dwelt among us! Not everyone that was involved that night was ready to receive the news that Christ was born. But, God still came and His birth was proclaimed to the unexpected of society and they obeyed the message of the angels. Two years later, those who were watching for a sign received the Star in the East and were led to worship the Son of God.
There have been many seasons in history, many reasons for hope, many hours and days; but none so important as the night that God became flesh and dwelt among us, Emmanuel, God with us! That night that proclaimed, “peace on earth, good will toward men” set the stage for a greater event in history, the redemptive act of Christ on the cross and the triumph of death & the grave on Resurrection Day!
Yet, even the greater important day of Redemption and Resurrection sets the stage for the ultimate day, Final Restoration and Return of Messiah.
Each event begs the statement, be ready…… get ready……
On the night that sounded Hope to the World, we wish you a Merry Christmas. May 2015 be a year of being ready and getting ready.
Because of His love, we will continue to serve you,
Todd & Elissa Beck
